ORWO NC19 is one of the most common expired color negative films in Lithuania. It was manufactured in East Germany until the 1990s. After the reunification of Germany, the ORWO factory in Wolfen was restructured, and film production was soon discontinued. As ORWO products were widely distributed throughout the Eastern Bloc, many of these films also found their way to Lithuania. Many of them remained unexposed, so even now, decades later, films that have been stored in wardrobes, basements, or warehouses continue to resurface.
Recently, a client came to us with an ORWO NC19 film. Since no one commercially develops it in Lithuania, we agreed to process it.
ORWO NC19 developing recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pc. Old ORWO NC19 (preferably aged at least 30 years)
- C-41 chemistry
- 23°C room temperature
- One hour of patience
- And a little optimism
Preparation:

Marinate the film for 35 minutes with intermittent agitation in C-41 developer at room temperature.

After that, agitate for 12 minutes (also at room temperature) in BLIX solution.

Thoroughly rinse off chemical residues.

Allow to dry and hope for the best.
Note:
If the colors don't look as you expected – that's fine. That's how it was supposed to be.
This is not a standardized process – each film will turn out differently! In this case, the film was exposed without considering its age and reduced sensitivity, so the colors changed significantly more. However, that is precisely the charm of expired films.
